Strategies in Baccarat

Baccarat has a long-standing reputation of gentlemanly elegance and smart play. Yet contrary to this image, to compete at baccarat online casinos, you don’t really need to be a professional. In fact, Baccarat provides some of the most favorable odds of winning in most casinos today, all players need is a basic understanding of the rules and a relaxed approach.

Remember the favorite house edge of baccarat now comes from the ability to ‘side with the dealer,’ an option that is rarely offered with casino games, and one that can put you at odds with fellow players.

The Rules

Most baccarat forms require a simple premise; the banker or dealer distributes two cards for himself and each of the players after bets have been made. Wins the hand that is closest to nine. > A third card may be issued depending on the sum of the initial deal. The price of the cards is as follows:

  • Ace = 1
  • 2-9 = face value
  • 10 = 0
  • Face cards = 0

Game Strategy

There is no strategy in most games of baccarat. It depends on the drawing rules as applied by the croupier whether or not a third card is dealt. If either eight or nine are scored by the player or banker, both will stand. If not, there will be players with five or more and players with five of less will hit. The banker often hits two or less game averages, or:

  • three unless the player scores eight
  • four if player scores two to seven, or a face card
  • five if player scores four to seven
  • six if player scores six or seven

Odds and Gambling

The only places where a player can have a reasonable effect on their chances of winning are by carefully picking their board, gambling on the most likely outcomes and avoiding desperation betting on long odds games. To do this, understanding what the odds of any gambling outcome are is vital.

The odds are for a banker / dealer win, a player win, and tie when playing a game with the standard eight card decks in a shoe. Players will bet on any hand with a pair in some six deck matches. On each example, here are the odds and payouts:

  • Banker/Dealer Win = 0.458 (Pays 0.95/1)
  • Player Win = 0.446 (Pays 1/1)
  • Tie = 0.095 (Pays 8/1 or 9/1)
  • Any Pair = 0.074 (Pays 11/1)

It means that the edge of the house is 1.06% on banker bets, 1.24% on game bets, 14.36% on tie bets, and 11.25% on pair bets. The banker bet therefore represents the best bet value in baccarat, despite the fact that some players consider bad baccarat etiquette to be “side with the dealer”.

Banker bets pay 1/1 in many casinos but are liable for commission. This usually amounts to 5 percent of winnings, making payout 0.95/1, but some casinos may charge lower commission rates. Playing at these tables would increase payouts and reduce the value of the house on banker bets even further.

For fact, if a casino has fewer than eight cards, the edge of the house will decline when the banker is backed, and the edge will increase when the game is backed up with a tie. So when you reach a table, it is always worth checking how many decks are in a pair.

The Exception

Big table, midi and mini baccarat will always follow the template described above, Chemin de Fer will be played by some European casinos, particularly in France. The player will determine whether or not to consider a third and fourth card in this variant of baccarat. While determining whether to strike or stand to capitalize on an offer, rules similar to blackjack should be applied in these matches.

You can try these strategies and play baccarat by joining a live casino. You can also choose and play a variety of games like online slot games and even online sports betting at the best casino in Thailand.
